This site will be devoted to Irish Chess.

Conel Hugh O'Donel Alexander vs. David Bronstein, Hastings, 1953

I have built a file of almost 2000 games played by the top Irish players of this century. I have an old computer (a faithful old computer) which I am going to devote to analysis of the database of games. I'll probably use either Junior 5, Rebel 10, or Hiarcs to analyze the games, then place the file here for download when it's finished. Actually, it's such a huge job, even at just 15 seconds per move, that I'll probably put games here as they're done.

I'm starting with games from the recent Bunratty Chess Festival (see link below). I'll add games from all the Irish Championships of this decade and back into the mid-80's, along with strong tourneys like Kilkenny, then add classic games going back to the early century.

Finally, I'll add an online game viewer to let you play through some of the top games, right here on the page.

Here's the games so far: Games of the recent Bunratty Chess Festival, rounds 1 - 5, analyzed by Junior 5 at 30 seconds per move. I'll have the complete tournament finished by Saturday, then I'll start on the 1998 Irish championship.

I'm having a problem installing the game viewer, since this server can only handle lowercase letters. All of the available online viewers are JAVA apps which have, at places in their jar and cab files, references to sub-files with capital letters. Consequently, none of them will run here. Sorry.

On the positive side, I now have an annotated game for Alexander vs. Bronstein (the game pictured above)finished, along with two excellent classic games. Now for the really trick part. I am going to try to write my own online chess game viewer java app. It won't be easy, and it won't happen within the next month, but I am working on it almost every day. I should learn a lot from the effort, and hopefully it will be worth the effort.

Thanks for your patience.
